Game setup

Install in the right order and save yourself a lot of avoidable trouble

Start with the full client, patch it with the launcher, and only install runtime packages if Windows or the game actually asks for them. Everything below is organized in the recommended order.

Client first Launcher second Runtime fixes if needed FAQ below
Setup sequence

Download in this order

The launcher is not a replacement for the full client. Install the base files first, then use the launcher for updates and repairs.

01 Required

Download the full client

This is the base installation. Use it for first-time setup or if you need a clean reinstall after a broken patch or corrupted files.

  • Use a clean folder outside protected system directories when possible.
  • Extract everything before running the launcher.
  • If you already have a damaged install, do not patch over a messy folder.

02 Required

Download the launcher

The launcher keeps the client updated, repairs changed files and should be your normal entry point after the base client is in place.

  • Place it inside the same folder as the client files.
  • Run it as administrator if Windows blocks patching.
  • If patching stalls, check antivirus quarantine and folder permissions first.

03 Optional

Install Microsoft runtimes if Windows complains

Most players do not need this step, but it solves the most common missing-library errors on fresh Windows installs or older machines.

  • Install Visual C++ if the client reports missing MSVCP or VCRUNTIME files.
  • Use the DirectX runtime only for legacy D3DX or XINPUT errors.
  • These packages do not replace the client or launcher.

Optional support package for missing Windows runtime dependencies.

What kind of PC is enough to play comfortably

The four things that prevent most installation issues

Most support cases are not mysterious client bugs. They usually come from folder permissions, missing runtimes, antivirus interference or patching the wrong directory.

Use a clean folder

Install in a dedicated game folder and avoid mixing old client files from unrelated builds.

Whitelist the folder

Antivirus and Windows Defender are common reasons for missing launcher or system files after extraction.

Run the launcher with permission

If patching fails, start the launcher as administrator before assuming the server files are broken.

Only install optional packages when needed

Visual C++ and DirectX are support tools for missing dependencies, not part of the normal install order.

Common issues

FAQ: when something goes wrong, start here

These are the most frequent startup and patching problems. In most cases, the fix is short and practical.

Windows says MSVCP140.dll, VCRUNTIME140.dll or a similar runtime file is missing

Install the Visual C++ package from step 3, then try the launcher or game again. These errors usually mean the required Microsoft runtime is not present in Windows yet.

The game asks for D3DX9_43.dll, XINPUT1_3.dll or another DirectX-related file

Install the DirectX runtime from the official Microsoft link in step 3. This usually fixes older legacy DirectX dependencies used by classic games.

The launcher opens but does not patch, freezes or closes early

Make sure the launcher is inside the client folder, run it as administrator, and check whether antivirus moved any files to quarantine. A protected folder can also prevent the patcher from writing updates.

The client opens and closes immediately, or only shows a black screen

Start by repairing the client through the launcher, then verify runtimes if Windows showed any missing-library message. If the issue started after a failed patch, a clean reinstall of the client folder is usually faster than guessing.

My antivirus or Windows SmartScreen says the files are suspicious

This often happens with private-server launchers because they update local game files. Restore the files if they were quarantined, whitelist the game folder, then run the launcher again.

I cannot connect after installation even though the client opens

Make sure you patched with the current launcher, confirm the server is online, and double-check that your firewall is not blocking the game or launcher. If the server is live and the patch is current, then it becomes a real support case.
